Past, Present and Future

SCR Medical Transportation, Inc. (SCR) began its tradition of innovation and customer service to the Greater Chicagoland area and surrounding suburbs in 1986.

Created during the early development of demand-responsive, door-to-door transportation, SCR’s focus was to provide the most efficient, customer service based transportation service possible to physically challenged individuals.

In 1988, with 3% of the market, SCR was one of six companies awarded a contract to provide paratransit services to a total of more than 1,240,139 passengers for the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA). Due to excellent service, the company’s share has grown to 45% of the Chicago paratransit market.

SCR now employs more than 570 people and operates a fleet of over 300 vehicles in the Greater Chicagoland area, surrounding suburbs and bordering counties.

We have invested in intellectual capital over the last few of years and brought in people with varied backgrounds, experience and educational levels to hold very key positions. We are investing in them and have charged them with developing their staff so that we can draw from the pool of managers we are developing here and appoint them to other operations where they can then train and develop staffs in other areas.

There’s a new concept in our industry called “mobility management”. The idea is to pool as many resources as possible together and identify the most cost-effective, efficient method to provide a particular trip to someone. PACE, the entity which operates our paratransit program in Chicago and the suburban area, put out a bid for a centralized call center and dispatch. We bid on that contract against three of the top carriers in the country and won. Therefore, we are now operating the first regional mobility management call center in our area.

Our long term strategy is to expand our current operations into other geographical areas and move out on a national level.
